Margot kept her eyes on the door. The day had finally come when she could take revenge on her husband. Her eyes sparkled with an unkind gleam. How long had she waited for this moment!
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Margot knew that her time had come. She had been waiting for this moment for two whole years, and now her heart was ready to jump out of her chest.
There were things neatly folded in a pile on the bed. There was a bag next to it where she needed to put everything. A woman in uniform entered the room to see her off.
Margot quickly collected her things and hurriedly left the cell.
“She can’t wait to meet her lover,” the warden who was walking behind her grinned.
Margot didn’t answer. She walked with her head held high, no longer paying attention to what was said behind her back. She had been through many trials, but now she was ready to take revenge on her offenders.
She looked ahead, but the events of three years ago flashed before her eyes.
Margo and Grisha were successful businessmen. When they got married, their business was on the rise. Success went to their heads and led to discord in their family life. Margo knew about all of her husband’s adventures, but she endured everything for the sake of a successful business. It hurt her, but she still remembered her husband as he was when they met. Then they were simple people, in love with each other. But over the years, this love disappeared, giving way to habit.
Margo trusted her husband. She signed all the documents that he brought her without looking at them. It turned out that this worked against her. Her entire successful and happy life disappeared in one day.
That day, she was accused of large-scale fraud and concealment of funds, and she went to prison. Her own husband set her up by providing forged documents. The trial did not last long. Her husband was against her, and she was not provided with a good lawyer. Most likely, her husband gave a bribe, because the court hushed up the case too quickly, putting all the blame on her. She did not even have time to understand anything. The shock of what was happening kept her in a daze for a long time. When she was sentenced to five years, she woke up, but it was too late. In prison, during two years of imprisonment, she was able to change. Now she was not the same frightened girl who could not stand up for herself. She had developed a strength that she had cultivated herself. For her good behavior, she was released early. Now she was thirsty for revenge, and Grisha was the main character to whom she had to show her new essence.
Margo thought about all this while she was given things. The warden patted her on the shoulder.
– Good luck!
When Margo found herself outside the prison gates, she could not take a step. Fear gripped her again. For two years she had been hatching a plan for revenge, and now she was afraid that she would be able to fulfill what she so craved. She stood there for about five minutes, and then she saw a familiar figure approaching her. Her body immediately went limp. Thank God, he was here! She ran to meet him. He also quickened his pace. A few moments later, they met, and the man hugged her.
“Margot, I can’t believe that this moment has come!” he exclaimed, burying his face in her neck and laughing nervously. But he had been waiting for this moment no less than she had.
It was Artyom, her husband’s friend. Right after she was put in prison, he began visiting her in prison. He believed in her innocence and knew that Grisha was not as innocent as he seemed. Another important factor was that Artyom had long been partial to Margot, but had never spoken of his sympathy. Only a year after his visits did he confess his feelings to Margo. And by that time, Margo felt more than just gratitude towards Artyom. They fell in love. She was in prison, he was free. Now nothing could stop these lovers.
“I was afraid that you wouldn’t come for me,” the woman whispered, and the man hugged her even tighter.
“How could I leave you? I won’t let you go anywhere again!” he replied.
Margo inhaled his scent and sighed with satisfaction.
When she was in prison, she began to learn interesting things with Artyom’s help. Artyom was a close friend of Grisha’s, and he knew some details of his machinations. It was Artyom who told her that Grisha had started all this because of his mistress, who wanted to appropriate part of Margo’s business. It was with her help that her husband had thought everything out and carried out his dirty deeds.
When Margo found out about this, she swore revenge, and Artyom helped her with it. He often visited Margo and Grisha’s house, and her husband did not suspect any relationship between them. He did not monitor Margo’s condition in prison, so he did not know about Artyom’s visits.
After the trial, he divorced Margo, and now he did not care about her fate.
“Let’s get out of here, I want to take a shower as soon as possible after these walls. I think I’m completely permeated with this rotten prison smell,” Margo wrinkled her nose.
Artyom laughed:
“What are you talking about? You smell better than all the women in the world.” He kissed her forehead and unclenched his hands, releasing her from his embrace. Margo laughed, enjoying the sound of her own laughter.
Grisha clenched his fists. His anger grew with each passing second.
“I don’t care what others think, and especially not you,” he said. “You’re not my wife anymore, and you’re no one here anymore. I don’t want you here. Since you’ve already left prison, be kind enough to go your own way and never show up in my sight again. Otherwise, I’ll lock you up again.”
Margot smiled, but there was coldness in her eyes.
“You shouldn’t be driving me away,” she said. “I have a surprise for you that you won’t like.”
“Well, okay, I’m ready to tolerate your rage, because it will be justified. You hid me away while you were enjoying your women. Now my time has come, and you’ll know what it’s like to suffer.”
Margot slowly opened the folder with documents, took out several papers and put them on the table in front of Grigory.
– Please, read these documents, – she said. – I warn you, you can destroy them, these are copies. The originals are with my lawyer, who will represent my interests in court. Whatever you do now, everything will turn against you in the future, so I’m telling you right now: touch me – and you will go to jail for the rest of your life.
Grigory frowned and took the documents. Having studied them, he raised his eyebrows in surprise.
– What is this, a joke? – he asked, looking at his ex-wife.
Margo leaned closer to the table and whispered:
– You taught me two years ago that there is no place for jokes in this life. I am a good student, right?
A few months later, Margo married Artyom. She became the full owner of her company and took away the mansion and expensive car from her ex-husband.
Grigory was left with nothing and disappeared from her life, as if he had never existed. All the documents proved that he voluntarily gave up all his property and the company in favor of Margot.
This time Margot won and celebrated it with her new husband, who helped her find herself again.
