Chelsie Hill had always dreamed of taking those cherished steps down the aisle at her wedding. But after a life-changing car accident in 2010 left her paralyzed from the waist down, she wasn’t sure that moment would ever be possible. In high school, she got into a truck with a friend who had been drinking, and the crash left her unable to walk.
A dancer with unstoppable spirit
Chelsie had begun dancing at just three years old and started competing by five. Movement was part of her identity, and when doctors told her at 17 that she would never walk again, she chose to keep dancing — in a new way. In 2012, she created Rollettes, a wheelchair dance team in Los Angeles designed to show that dance expresses love, strength, and joy no matter how you move.
A wedding moment she’d dreamed of since childhood
On her wedding day, 29-year-old Chelsie put on her elegant gown and prepared for one of the most meaningful moments of her life. She wanted to surprise her future husband, Jay Bloomfield, 34, by walking toward him using leg braces and a specially designed white walker. Her gown, created by Galia Lahav, even included a removable skirt to help her transition between standing and sitting.
Chelsie and Jay, who met in 2014, celebrated their wedding on September 24, 2021, at the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach. Jay had no idea what Chelsie was planning — she arranged for him to face away from the aisle as she began her entrance with her father.
When he finally turned around and saw her standing tall, his reaction said everything. His hand flew to his face as he fought back tears, overwhelmed by love and admiration.

A moment filled with love, family, and pure emotion
Chelsie later shared that she always pictured herself walking toward her partner, eye to eye, heart to heart, just as she imagined as a young girl. She emphasized that using her wheelchair is part of her life and identity, but walking that short distance was a deeply personal dream she longed to experience.
Jay described the moment as incredibly moving, saying it took all his strength to remain steady as he watched her walk toward him.
In her vows — which she later shared with her family and followers — Chelsie told Jay that after her injury, she wondered if she would ever find someone who loved her fully. Jay proved to be that person, honoring her, supporting her health journey, and embracing every part of who she is. Standing there together, she felt their connection more deeply than ever.
That walk down the aisle became one of Chelsie’s most treasured memories — a reminder that love, courage, and hope can lead to moments more powerful than she ever imagined.
